The river of your dreams

River Hemsila is part of Fishing Norway’s top 5 list on fly-fishing rivers for mountain trout. Crystal clear, and gently flowing, speckled with a few class one rapids, it is making its way down the beautiful valley tacked in spruce shores between mountains drizzling with waterfalls.
Even with a single hand rod, you are able to reach any big fish rise that may occur in front of you. Using long razor thin leaders you will make perfect presentations to the huge golden brown trout out there in the current. For a split second you will chill to the bone at the strike, before the pool explodes in violent turmoil, and the squeaking of your reel fills the air. The Hemsila trout is a wild bread, making uncontrollable runs and leaps. Running big trout on such fine gear is a challenge indeed, so keep you focus, for the line may snatch at any moment. ...More

The best spot in Norway for pike and perch

The Steinsfjord is one of the definitive hotspots on fishing Norway for pike and perch. With its mild eastern Norwegian climate and its central location only half and hour from Oslo by car, and its swelling scenery, the lake is a popular destination for anglers from abroad. Each summer, more than 1000 pikes, and some huge amount of bass (some of which are 60 cm) are caught from the rental boat of Mr. Erling Elsrud alone. Mr. Manual Schrants proudly displays his major catch last year, a long beast measuring 1,25m. However, on the catches of the plenty German and Dutch anglers, 9 out of 10 pikes are released into the lake. ...More

Everybody gets trout in River Jølstra!

My small dry fly sets like a feather on the current ridge. I still glimpse the broken surface where a mountain trout just kissed the surface. Will it be tempted again? The answer is instant, and so is my counter strike.
I am located in the outlet of River Jølstra, with Lake Jølstravatnet spreading out before me. No Norwegian Lake contains more trout, with an annual catch of 20 tons. The major part of this amount is taken in nets, but tons are also caught by live bait, spinner, spoons and flies, especially in proximity to the hundreds of inlet streams and the major outlet, River Jølstra.
Especially after rain, when the creeks swell, the trout seeks to these minor inlets to feast on the abundant food contained in the floodwater. I’m spooked to consciousness by a kilos trout leaping into the air as it strikes my gear so hard the reel whines. A small mistake now and the battle will be lost. But my fine gear is working skilfully in trembling hands. The well conditioned trout is secured and landed.
